Blog: “An Ongoing Conversation” by Robert Muro
Type of Fast: Liquids all day until tomorrow
Target: Our local church pastors and their family
Day three is here and it’s a great time to really enjoy the presence of God! If you’ve been going to church prayer every night then I think you know what I’m talking about. We’ve stepped into “Miracle Territory!”
Read: Matthew 26:36-41
Jesus was Alone
Jesus was about to do something he’d never done before. And in order to follow through with God’s will, he needed to depend on God. It’s times like now that draw us closer and deeper towards God. We get the chance to really soak in his presence and see things from his perspective. It’s only day three so I know we have a long ways to go. But I know a lot of people are already beginning to sense that God is preparing us for something great. I was able to visit Victory Outreach San Jose this weekend and that was a big point that Sister Mitzi hit on…she said that God had been preparing her all along. And that if it wasn’t for her relationship with God, she would not have been able to handle what was to come. Just like God spoke to Jesus, i believe that he will speak to us as well…but it starts by being alone with God.
Jesus was Attacked
I was listening to a message the other day and the preacher said something that really caught my attention. He said, “When I make a decision to change, Satan gives me excuses to stay the same.” Isn’t that the truth? We might say it’s just us. But it’s not. God will never birth failure in our hearts. But since we are people that are going forward…we have to be ready for the attacks that are coming. We’re in a fight right now…and we have to win because God is on our side. I don’t know what your attack is. Maybe you’ve decided to pray more but find your mind wandering when you’re about to hit your knees. Maybe you’ve decided to pay more attention to your family but find yourself working more and more. Or even as a church, we’re believing God for a “YES” vote with the planning commission and that there won’t be an appeal filed against us. There will be many attacks…but as long as we stay close to God and stay open to what he wants, we will experience all that God has for us in his perfect will.
Jesus was Able to Adjust
In the end, Jesus adapted to the plans that God had for him. God has great plans for all of us. But if we can’t change with the different things that God has for us….how can we fulfill the plans that he has for us? We’re able to adjust to God’s plan when we really trust that God has our best intentions in mind, we can’t just expect God to bend to our requests:
“But I never meant for prayer to be like a vending machine, or Santa Claus. You put your time in asking, and you ask right and hold your mouth the right way and make your heart as open as you can and make promises you probably wouldn’t keep anyway…and you wait for Me to come through for you. And then when I don’t, you leave Me alone ’til the next test you didn’t study for…or the next girl you hope pays attention to you…or the time you really hope you don’t get caught, and you promise you’ll never do it again. That isn’t prayer! Prayer is relationship. It’s an ongoing conversation between you and Me…two people who want to get to know each other better.” – Lanny Donoho from “God’s Blogs”
