Blog: “Fixing Your Eyes on God” by Renee Cuervo
Type of Fast: Fruits all day
Target: Spiritual zeal for fasting and prayer
For so long, we’ve lived our lives on our own beliefs based on things we were taught or seen growing up. We seem to act or react based on how we perceive we should or how others influence us to respond. During the course of time, we’ve developed habits and traditions. We’ve become routine. At times we are on automatic pilot with our thoughts and our actions. The older you get, the more set in your ways you become. But how do those ways, those beliefs, those actions and reactions line up with the word of God?
How we grew up and what we believe has an effect on how we view God and His word. Some of us need a complete overhaul of our thoughts. For example, you may have grown up your whole life feeling somewhat insecure because you had people tease you or someone of influence drilling negativity inside you. Because of that, you may read scriptures like “we are more than conquerors” (Romans 8:37) or “I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Proverbs 139:14) and automatically think that those scriptures apply to others; but the scriptures apply to you. Do you view yourself the way God views you?
Today, God wants you to know how special you are. You have something within you that not one person on this earth can compare to. God wants to use your life to make a difference. What a privilege! The God of limitless power and glory wants to use you and me to do something so magnificent and special, yet we doubt and hold back. There may be many reasons why you hold back but God wants to do something new in your life.
During this time of prayer and fasting, no matter if you started off strong and fizzled out or whether you are going full speed ahead; God wants to deposit His power inside of you. There is such an urgency like never before for God’s people to take their place. His Spirit is moving. Things that were once imaginable will begin to take place in your life if you just listen to God’s voice. He is speaking! During this time of separation is an opportunity to be open and empty vessels; allowing His Spirit to come in; allowing His Spirit to provoke; allowing His Spirit to speak and give instruction; allowing His Spirit to inspire you. Believe me when you accept this in your life, no matter what you go through, it will not even compare to the glory of the Lord that shines within you. Hardship may come, but you have a God on your side that is greater.
Today, make a stand in your own life. Fix your eyes on God. Trust and rely on His word. Once you do, you will align yourself with miracles and blessings beyond anything we can do on our own power. More than that, you will reap eternal rewards.
11 I will teach you wisdom’s ways
and lead you in straight paths.
12 When you walk, you won’t be held back;
when you run, you won’t stumble.
13 Take hold of my instructions; don’t let them go.
Guard them, for they are the key to life.
