Blog: “God Answers Prayers” by Liz Higareda
Type of Fast: No tv, video games, chatting online, newspaper, magazines
Target: Salvation for those addicted to drugs and alcohol
God always requires His people to repent of their sins before He will hear their prayers. Fasting and prayer are disciplines that fulfill the requirements of II Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
Earlier in the scripture it explains how the temple that was build was to be dedicated to God. (2 Chronicles 7:1) King Solomon and the people prepared to worship Him there in the temple. After Solomon finished praying; fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. This Fire is a symbol of God’s presence. This was the real dedication of the temple because only God’s purifying power can make something Holy. The purpose of this dedication was to set apart the temple as a place to worship God. Today, our bodies are God’s temple (2 Corinthians 6:16) Solomon’s dedication of the temple shows us that we should dedicate ourselves to carry out God’s special purpose.
As we are in Christ, we no longer belong to ourselves but to God, Fasting is a separation unto the Lord, it’s to draw us closer in communion with Him. We must include fasting in our walk with the Lord, there will be times and seasons that We must be focused and really seek the face of God through fasting, it’s a discipline of our bodies and spiritual check up. It’s a powerful tool that we can utilize to be more sensitive to the holy spirit, to one another, discerning towards the needs of people or situations…..Keeps us humbled before the Lord and towards others.
When we pray, remember that God hears you. Don’t let the extremity of your situation cause you to doubt his care for you.
In chapter 6, Solomon asked god to make provisions for the people when they sinned. God answered with four conditions for forgiveness:
1) Humble yourself by admitting your sins
2) Pray to God asking for forgiveness
3) Seek God continually
4) Turn from sinful behavior. True repentance is more than talk- it is changed behavior
Whether we sin individually, as a group, or as a nation, following these steps will lead to forgiveness. God will answer our earnest prayers.
We as a church are in Miracle territory, the Devil hates you and me. He and his demons are trying to take us out and separate us from the Love of God. He can’t stand when we push forward through the storms of Life, his plans don’t succeed, he FAILS! But God’s plan supersedes over the enemies, especially when we use our weapons of prayer and fasting, although our flesh is weak but our spirit is willing. We know that God will show up on our behalf, He is never late! HE IS FAITHFUL! So let’s continue to pray without ceasing, fasting without excuses and fighting the good fight of Faith! We can do this, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, it is His strength not our own!
