Blog: “When You Fast…” by Pastor Larry Fuentes
Type of Fast: No Red Meats
Target: Regional Pastors and their families
One of the most famous New Year’s resolutions that come out every year is “This year I want to go on a Diet.” The truth of the matter is… that the majority of Resolutions are temporary. And usually by February that thought of losing weight is out the window, especially during the holidays. When It comes to fasting, its actually more than just losing weight, or simply not eating…and the result is anything but temporary. When I was young in the Lord I thought Fasting was simply wrong, and actually remember saying this is of the Devil (seriously joking of course). I used to live with a Minister in Connecticut, and he not only was the pastor of the Church but also oversaw the Men’s Recovery home as well. Which meant where he went I went. If he woke up at 5am and prayed with the home I woke up and prayed with the home. If the Home fasted on Fridays I Fasted on Fridays. That was where I First got my taste of the 4 letter word “FAST”.
I want to encourage you today to continue in your commitment to God. Whether this is your first time fasting or you’ve been doing this for years. I know that this fast is going to have lasting results in many areas of your life, your families lives and our church.. I can’t wait to hear what great things are going to come into your life as a result of your commitment to God.
I think Paul said it best in 2 Corinthians 4:16-18, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
